Spotify is introducing verification badges for podcasts as part of new measures to help listeners identify official shows and protect creators from impersonation.
The platform says the move is designed to strengthen trust between podcast hosts and their audiences as new AI tools make it easier to clone voices and create misleading content.
The new “Verified by Spotify” badge will appear alongside a light green checkmark on podcast show pages and in search results. It confirms that a show is the official presence of a creator, publisher or brand.
Spotify says the badge will help listeners understand who they are hearing, while giving podcasters “a clear, credible way to establish their identity” on the platform.
The badge is rolling out to selected podcasts from today, with a wider expansion planned over the coming months.
Eligibility will be based on sustained listener activity, compliance with Spotify’s platform policies, and checks to confirm audience authenticity, including safeguards against fraudulent or bot-generated listening.
Spotify says the definition of authenticity in podcasting is continuing to evolve, and its approach to verification will develop over time.
The company has also reiterated that its impersonation policies apply to AI-generated content.
Spotify says it will remove podcasts that use another creator or host’s voice or likeness without permission, whether created using AI voice cloning or other methods.
There are already reporting channels for creators to flag unauthorised use of their voice or identity.
In announcing the changes, Spotify said podcasting depends on the trust between creators and listeners and protecting that relationship is essential as the format continues to grow.
The company described the updates as the first in a series of steps aimed at building a more trustworthy podcast ecosystem for creators, partners and audiences.
