The Girlfriends release original music from chart-topping podcast
The Girlfriends tells the true story of a group of women who formed a club to put a murderous ex-boyfriend behind bars.
Released by Novel last month in collaboration with global nonprofit NO MORE, the story illuminates the ways women unite to protect each other when systems of justice fail them.
The podcast made the top spot on the overall Apple Podcast Chart and the True Crime chart. To celebrate the final episode of the series being released this week, Novel and NO MORE have released an album of the original music featured. It’s set to a haunting choral score specially composed by Luisa Gerstein featuring singers from Deep Throat Choir.
The soundtrack, like the podcast, aims to showcase the power of female solidarity and raise awareness of violence against women. It also highlights the fact that women’s voices are at the centre of this true justice series. All proceeds from the album will be donated to NO MORE.
Pamela Zaballa, NO MORE CEO said: “We are proud to partner with ‘The Girlfriends’ podcast to raise awareness of domestic violence and help survivors find the support they need.
“At NO MORE, we strongly believe that media and entertainment can play an important role in changing the culture that has allowed the epidemic of domestic violence to persist. We’re grateful to Novel for using this powerful story to help fuel real and lasting change.”
