UK independent producer, Whistledown has won top awards for three major investigative podcast series at the prestigious New York Festivals Radio Awards.
Powerplay: The House of Sepp Blatter made for BBC Radio 5 Live won Gold in the Sports Documentary category and Silver in Non-Fiction Series.
Please Protect Abraham, a ten part BBC Radio 4 series, following the story of Abraham Badru who witnessed a sexual assault at the age of 14, gave evidence at trial, and was shot dead twelve years later, won Gold in the Narrative Documentary category and Silver in Social Justice.
A third series, Deepest Dive, the Search for MH370, which was made for Audible Australia won Silver in the Narrative Documentary category. The eight-part series, presented by broadcaster Jana Wendt and former naval officer Peter Waring, traced the search for the Malaysian Airlines plane that went missing in 2014 and was also a finalist in the Investigative Journalism category.
“Long form UK based production is now dominating the audio world”, said Whistledown Managing Director David Prest. “Our method of original storytelling, coupled with forensic journalism and great sound design, is attracting a new audience for audio.
