Wondery expands Oprah podcast with exclusive multi-year deal

The Oprah Podcast will increase to two weekly episodes under a new distribution deal with Wondery.

Amazon and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Entertainment have agreed a multi-year partnership giving Wondery exclusive distribution and advertising rights across both audio and video versions of the series.

From July, the podcast will be distributed across Amazon services including Prime Video, Amazon Music, Fire TV Channels and Audible, while remaining available on YouTube and other podcast platforms.

The agreement also includes rights to The Oprah Winfrey Show archive and Oprah’s Book Club and Oprah’s Favorite Things, with scope for further integration across Amazon’s platforms.

This expansion will see the podcast move to two episodes each week from this summer, increasing output for a show that already features conversations with authors, public figures and cultural commentators.

The Oprah Podcast includes interviews recorded in front of live audiences, alongside discussions covering topics such as relationships, grief, financial wellbeing and community building.

Notable guests have included Misty Copeland, Hugh Jackman, Kate Hudson, Mel Robbins and Serena Williams.

The series is produced by Harpo Entertainment, with Oprah Winfrey and Tara Montgomery as executive producers.

Oprah said: “Hosting this podcast allows me to continue the work I feel called to do – opening the door for conversations that matter.

“The kind of conversations that remind us we’re not alone and invite us to see ourselves and one another more clearly.”

She added that expanding the show’s global reach would help “connect through stories that invite new ways of seeing and, hopefully, deepen understanding.”

Steve Boom, Amazon’s Vice President of Audio, Twitch and Games, said: “Oprah Winfrey has built one of the most iconic, timeless brands in the world, spanning television, publishing, and beyond.

“Through this collaboration with Harpo Entertainment, we are bringing her voice to more people and expanding how her audiences engage with Oprah in ways only Amazon can deliver.”

Matt Sandler, GM of Creator Services, Amazon added: “Long before the term ‘creator’ existed, Oprah was building a direct and deeply personal connection with audiences across generations – and that bond continues to grow.

“Creators are reshaping entertainment, and Oprah continues to pave the way. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with her on what’s ahead.”
