Co-founder of Bossa Studios and host of the Hyper Curious Podcast, Roberta Lucca joins James Mitra on the latest 40 Minute Mentor podcast, which celebrates career advice from some of the most influential leaders.
Roberta co-founded Bossa Studios, which has since won a BAFTA award, and in 2018 she was named on the Forbes Top 50 Women in Tech.
Speaking about the honest struggles that have come with being an entrepreneur, Roberta says: “I’ve experienced burnout multiple times in my career. I have a very high inner critic, which helps me to achieve great things, and to keep on achieving. However, at the same time, the inner critic doesn’t allow my passionate side to come out, and highlight ‘Roberta you’re doing too much’.”
That could have a negative effect, but she says that over the last couple of years she’s learnt how to activate her compassionate side and be less in the burnout functional burnout mode.
Roberta is happy to share valuable advice for entrepreneurs who are starting out, including the importance of community, she says: “You can read many business books, but unless you do the start-up or make a start, you’re never gonna learn about yourself and everything you have to do.”
She emphasises there’s an important emphasis on community too: “You should question whether you are in the right tribe. Do you have the right connections to find people to employ, to find the right partners, or investors?
Again, this is something you have to throw yourself into, explore Linkedin, find other companies like yours, expand your horizon and be willing to absorb everything,” Roberta adds.
40 Minute Mentor is available on Apple, Spotify, Soundcloud, and all major podcast platforms.
