The Golden Globes has announced the nominees for the 83rd Annual Golden Globes, confirming podcasts as part of its awards programme for the first time.
Often described as Hollywoodโs Party of the Year, the Golden Globes is one of the worldโs most high-profile awards shows celebrating achievements in film and television, and this year the ceremony formally adds podcasting to that global stage with the launch of a Best Podcast category.
Six major shows have been shortlisted for the new award, representing a broad mix of celebrity-led conversation, news and culture, and long-running chart-topping brands from across the audio industry.
The nominees are Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard from Wondery, Call Her Daddy from SiriusXM, Good Hang with Amy Poehler from Spotify, The Mel Robbins Podcast from SiriusXM, SmartLess from SiriusXM, and NPRโs daily news podcast Up First.
The inclusion of podcasting reflects the growing influence of the medium within the wider entertainment industry, with many of the nominated shows also having strong links to television, film and live performance through their hosts and production partners.
Several of the shortlisted podcasts already attract millions of listeners each week and regularly feature in global download charts.
