PastMaster podcast returns with new season of time travel comedy

PastMaster is back with a new run of episodes featuring fresh guests, new historical settings and a continued focus on comedy-driven storytelling.

The history-based comedy podcast, hosted by Tan and Ryan, returns for its 5th season with a fortnightly release schedule, alongside occasional side quest episodes designed to test the show’s format.

The series centres on the hosts travelling back in time armed with modern knowledge, attempting to survive unfamiliar eras without drawing dangerous attention.

Episode one, released today, features comedian Esther Manito, who takes on an undercover mission along the Silk Road.

Further guests announced for the series include Sunil Patel, Heidi Regan, Bilal Zafar, Patrick and Hugo McPherson, Rohan Sharma, Caroline McEvoy, Sallyann Fellowes, Ashley Haden, Tadiwe Mahlunge, Alasdair Beckett-King and Laura Lexx.

Across the series, episodes are set in locations including ancient China, the Mayan Empire, the Aksumite Empire, the lost American colony of Roanoke and the race to the South Pole.

Each episode blends historical scenarios with improvisation, as guests attempt to navigate unfamiliar societies while avoiding suspicion.

Ryan and Tan said they were looking forward to expanding the scope of the show in the new season.

“Our adventures so far have stretched from the Viking empire to Victorian London and from Prohibition-era Chicago to the Neolithic tribes of Eurasia. And yet we’ve only scratched the surface,” they said. “Expect the unexpected and be prepared to laugh.”

PastMaster is part of the independent Mercury podcast network, which also produces comedy titles including Ghastly Women, with another show due to be announced later this week.

Episode one of the new season of PastMaster is available from today, Monday 2 February, with new episodes arriving every two weeks.
