Audible reimagines Heathcliff in new original drama

Audible has launched a new original drama revisiting the missing years of Heathcliff’s life.

The production, titled Heathcliff, is created with Brock Media and returns to the world of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights to explore the origins of one of literature’s most complex characters.

Starring Daryl McCormack in the title role, the cast also includes Arinzé Kene, Charlie Rowe, Gracie Oddie-James, Sagar Radia, Raffey Cassidy and Tanya Moodie.

The story imagines the three years absent from Brontë’s novel, following Heathcliff after Catherine’s rejection as he leaves the moors for London.

There, he encounters historical figure Sir Francis Barber, alongside fictional characters including Lord Montgomery and Rhoda Pascal, as he seeks identity, fortune and belonging.

The drama positions these years as a period of possibility before his later descent into revenge.

Daryl said: “Heathcliff is one of the most complex and interesting individuals in literature, which made this such an intriguing role to play.

“This original story follows him on his missing years and his journey of self-discovery and internal redemption, which I think will allow the listener to have compassion for him despite his flaws.”

The series is written by Gracie Oddie-James and directed by Mahalia Belo, marking both of their audio drama debuts.

Aurelie de Troyer, Head of Regional Content Europe at Audible, said: “We know that Audible listeners around the world love classic literature and Wuthering Heights needs no introduction.

”Heathcliff is such an iconic character and by exploring his roots, and those three missing years, we’re excited to give listeners a different perspective on his story.”

The production is presented in Dolby Atmos with sound design by Brain Audio and an original score by Gaika Tavares. Heathcliff is available to pre-order at www.audible.co.uk.
