The Spoken World podcast is back with a second season focused on reporting from the global audiobook industry.
Hosted by journalist and podcaster, Christopher Kenneally, the show continues covering news, interviews and professional insights about the estimated $7 billion sector, alongside recordings from key publishing conferences.
Episodes will be published every other Thursday. The new season opens with an interview with Luis González, Managing Director of the Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez and organiser of the recent Parix Audio Day conference in Madrid.
During the conversation, Luis discusses with Christopher the widely debated question of whether listening to a book should be considered the same as reading it.
Future episodes will feature interviews with industry figures and analysts from markets around the world, who will discuss developments affecting the audiobook business, including technology, languages, sales channels and new business models.
Christopher said: “I am excited about the breadth of reporting that our podcast will bring to the audiobook industry. From AI-generated narration to immersive soundscapes, new markets to new languages, new audio sales channels and business models — listeners will learn about it on The Spoken World podcast.”
The second season will also include panel discussions and keynote speeches from industry events including Parix Audio Day, the London Book Fair and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Season two introduces Penguin Random House Audio as the podcast’s first sponsor. The publisher has more than 25,000 titles in its global audiobook catalogue.
The Spoken World launched in March last year at the London Book Fair. The biweekly podcast has since gained worldwide listenership and coverage.
From Burst Marketing, the podcast is available on YouTube and most podcast platforms, as well as through its website SpokenWorld.Media.
