Documentary studio Zandland is launching a weekly vodcast hosted by founder Ben Zand as part of a wider direct to consumer strategy.
The Zandland Show will feature explainers on global events, conversations with journalists and creators, and discussions with people from underreported communities. The series will also sit alongside the studio’s monthly Human documentaries.
It will be released as both video and podcast content, forming a regular platform for Zandland to explore current affairs and social issues with guests from across media, culture and public life.
Episode one features filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, director of the Academy Award nominated film The Voice of Hind Rajab.
The launch forms part of a broader expansion by the studio to reach audiences directly through its own channels and community.
Alongside new content, Zandland plans to introduce in person events designed to bring audiences together around the themes explored in its documentaries and podcasts.
A membership offer is also in development, providing supporters with access to additional experiences and content connected to the studio’s work.
Ben Zand, founder and chief executive of Zandland, said: “Our bet is that there are more people than ever who want to properly understand the world and connect with others around stories that are true and real.
“At a time when misinformation spreads easily and so much media feels distant or performative, we think audiences are looking for something more direct and human.”
Ben added that the new show provides a regular space to discuss stories shaping the world, while the planned events aim to bring the audience community together offline.
Zandland was founded by the investigative filmmaker and produces documentaries and podcasts for broadcasters and digital platforms, alongside its own direct to audience projects.
Previous work has included factual series and current affairs content across television, streaming platforms and podcast feeds.
The Zandland Show launches today, 12 March on YouTube and Spotify.
Further details about the first live event linked to The Zandland Show are expected to be announced soon.
