What’s your map? podcast returns for series five with Hay Festival show

The podcast What’s Your Map? is returning for a fifth series with a live festival recording and new international guests.

Produced by Oculi Mundi, the digital platform for The Sunderland Collection, the series continues to centre on conversations shaped by maps chosen by each guest, linking personal stories with wider cultural and scientific themes.

Hosted by historian and writer Jerry Brotton, each episode invites contributors from across disciplines to discuss a map that has influenced their thinking, offering insight into both the artefact and their own experiences.

The new season will also feature a live recording at the Hay Festival on 27 May at 8.30pm. The event will take place on the Discovery Stage, where Jerry Brotton will be joined by Tim Marshall, David Olusoga and Emma Jane Unsworth for a recorded discussion.

Alongside the audio release, listeners can access high resolution images of each featured map through the Oculi Mundi website, with additional background information about both the maps and the contributors.

The fifth series includes a wide range of guests, from Norwegian adventurer Cecilie Skog to linguist Ross Perlin and archaeologist Marcello Canuto. Other contributors include Richard A. Pegg, Rohini Rai, Bill Rankin, Jonathan Wright and Debbie Ding.

Helen Sunderland Cohen, Director of The Sunderland Collection and Oculi Mundi, said: “In Season 5 of What’s Your Map? we continue to delve into both personal and cartographic stories as we meet an extraordinary group of people who use maps as a lens for new discoveries or memories.”

She added: “We look forward to welcoming listeners to our most engaging and thought-provoking series yet.”

The new series will launch on 25 March across major podcast platforms.
