Amityville podcast examines horror franchise through weekly series

A new podcast is analysing every film in the Amityville Horror franchise.

Amityvilleville is hosted by Alex Goldman and Caroline Thompson, who recap and discuss all 91 films linked to the long-running horror series, from the 1979 original to more recent releases.

The show is produced in partnership with Radiotopia from PRX and focuses on the cultural impact and evolution of the franchise, alongside commentary on its themes and audience appeal.

Each episode follows Alex and Caroline as they work through the catalogue chronologically, including widely known titles and lesser-known spin-offs such as Amityville Sharkhouse and Amityville Bigfoot.

The first two episodes introduce listeners to the background of the series, including the 1974 DeFeo family murders and the reported haunting that inspired the original film, before moving into a detailed recap of the 1979 release.

Caroline and Alex said: “Whether you’re into campy horror, a true believer in the paranormal, or just a fan of silly movie podcasts, Amityvilleville delivers for listeners of all stripes.

“As we make our way through the entire back catalogue of this strange, disturbing, and deeply unhinged series, we’re excited to explore the very American roots of the Amityville phenomenon.”

They added that the podcast will examine why the franchise has continued to attract audiences over several decades, despite its varied tone and production quality.

Alex Goldman previously co-created and hosted Reply All and now presents Hyperfixed for Radiotopia, while Caroline Thompson has worked on The Ghoul Gang podcast and writes about pop culture and online trends.

New episodes of Amityvilleville are released every Friday and are available on major podcast platforms.
