BBC Sounds republishes tribute to Clive Davis

BBC Sounds has made the Radio 2 documentary Clive Davis – The Last Record Man available again, following the death of the legendary music industry mogul.

The programme, originally broadcast in 2011, explores the impact Davis had on the music industry over a career spanning more than 50 years.

Presented by Paul Gambaccini, the documentary examines how Davis helped shape the careers of artists including Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston and Barry Manilow.

Listeners will hear from Davis himself, as well as contributions from Barry Manilow, Jennifer Hudson, Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, Rolling Stone Contributing Editor Antony DeCurtis, record producer L A Reid, A&R executive Peter Edge, and Jason King, Associate Professor at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Popular Music.

The programme features music from a range of artists, from Big Brother and the Holding Company to Alicia Keys, Earth, Wind & Fire, Santana, Barry Manilow, Air Supply and Whitney Houston.

Produced by Sue Clark Productions for BBC Radio 2, the documentary is now available on BBC Sounds.
