Women in the Driving Seat is a new podcast from Auto Trader hosted by award winning motoring journalist Erin Baker.
The podcast marks the company’s commitment to showcase the automotive industry as a great place for women to work to attract and retain talent. Auto Trader is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive culture where everybody can thrive and be at their best and is one of the few FTSE 100 companies with a majority female board.
Across the series, Erin Baker brings pairs of guests together to tackle topics such as sustainability, customer service and the retail sector.
As well as examining key industry trends, the discussion will also provide a space for guests to share the balls they’ve dropped and the plates they’re spinning.
The guests are from various parts of the automotive industry, from manufacturer to retailer to energy suppliers, to give a range of thought and experience.
Racing drivers Nathalie McGloin and Vicki Butler-Henderson feature in the first episode, with others lined up for the series including BBC sustainability journalist Lucy Siegle, broadcaster, and former editor of Glamour magazine Jo Elvin, plus Vicky Read, CEO of ChargeUK, and Nicole Melillo Shaw, MD of Volvo Cars.
Host Erin Baker has spent 25 years in journalism including as Managing Director of Motoring at Telegraph Media Group, writing for titles such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Marie Claire as well as appearing as a judge on The Apprentice.
Erin says: “The female-empowerment genre is too one-dimensional – we need to lift the corporate curtain to understand that, while we strive for equality, it can be hard out there for women juggling professional and personal demands.
“By sharing stories about our worries, fears and achievements, we can inspire and inform not only the next generation but our peers too, and hopefully each of us will feel less alone.
“We have an amazing line up of guests: women I have admired and known for years, and I can’t wait to get them in the driving seat, in front of a microphone.”
Episode one of Women in the driving seat will be available from 20 February on YouTube and Spotify, featuring Nathalie McGloin and Vicki Butler-Henderson.
