Clara Amfo and Jordan Stephens launch Make me a Mixtape on BBC Sounds

Clara Amfo and Jordan Stephens are battling it out to create the ultimate mixtape on BBC Sounds.

As two of the UK’s best-known podcast hosts, longtime friends, award-winning presenter Clara Amfo and Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens aim is to curate the perfect mixtape for a given mood, event or occasion from a theme set by a listener or celebrity guest.

Clara and Jordan will tap into new music loves (and hates) and long forgotten gems in the hope of coming out on top with the listener. In the quest for perfection there will be some friendly competition, including song ‘steals’.

In episode one Jordan steals 3 Wheel-ups by Kano from Clara for his own mixtape, there are celebrity drop-ins – who ‘gift’ the duo tracks for their mixtapes – and some confessions along the way.

In episode two, the theme for the week’s music showdown, is set by Ivor Novello Award nominee and singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri. She asks Clara and Jordan to create the ultimate ‘guitar-y pop’ mixtape for her as she’s on the road touring. Rachel then decides who curates the best mixtape and who is crowned the winner.

Clara Amfo says of Make Me A Mixtape: “I’m excited to be hanging out/competing with Jordan for Make Me A Mixtape. I have always loved sharing music with stranger, friends and family, so this is a peak extension of that amongst the various algorithms we’re surrounded by.

“I look forward to hearing more of our guests’ stories with the tunes we select…and of course beating Jordan every show!”

Jordan Stephens says: “I’m excited to be joining the BBC family and getting to work with Clara at the same time.

“Make Me A Mixtape is a show filled with passion, competition and friendship – plus it’s a great opportunity to flex my music tastes and engage my competitive side!

“The format is really relatable, we all love creating playlists, but sometimes narrowing it down can be hard, so we want to help streamline the process for our listeners!”

The first two of the 12-episode series are available on BBC Sounds now, with future episodes released each Tuesday.
