Dave Grohl shares food and tour stories on Dish podcast

Dave Grohl is the latest guest on Dish from Waitrose, discussing music, food and life on tour.

The Foo Fighters frontman joins hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett OBE for a wide-ranging conversation that links his career in music with a long-standing passion for cooking and hospitality.

Dave reflects on three decades with Foo Fighters, describing the comfort of performing together and the connection with audiences.

He says: “Those can be the most comforting three hours of an otherwise really difficult day… you get to experience this communal joy.”

Away from the stage, much of the discussion focuses on food. Dave explains his dedication to barbecue, including cooking thousands of meals for homeless shelters in Los Angeles.

He describes the process as demanding but rewarding, saying long cooks can last up to 22 hours and require constant attention.

He also shares memories of learning to cook from his parents and how he now brings that into family life.

“The first thing I do when I come home from being on tour is I like to cook for the family,” he says, adding that comfort food plays an important role.

The episode includes lighter moments, from stories about touring life to discovering his own hotel rider after 20 years.

Dave also recalls a flight with Josh Homme that startled passengers, alongside reflections on meeting David Bowie in the studio.

Food remains a consistent theme throughout, from his favourite bolognese recipe to his belief that “everything’s better with butter”. He also highlights the importance of shared meals, describing band dinners as a regular ritual on tour.
