David Gandy questions future of modelling on Man Made podcast

David Gandy has suggested modelling could be replaced by artificial intelligence within a generation.

Appearing on Man Made, hosted by Pete Wicks, the model spoke about how technology, mental health, and modern pressures are reshaping ideas of masculinity and work in creative industries.

David said he believes the modelling world could look very different by the time his daughters reach adulthood, pointing to cost-saving and marketing pressures as key drivers behind potential change.

He said: “By the time my kids could be into modelling at 18 I don’t think it’s the industry that’s going to exist. I think it would just be all AI generated.”

Asked if he genuinely expects that shift, David added: “I do, unless it’s regulated. I really really do because it’s based on economics and marketing that’s what he’s done how can we save costs and AI save costs.”

Alongside industry change, the conversation focused on personal challenges, including fatherhood and maintaining values in a digital world.

David spoke about wanting to pass on qualities such as kindness and perseverance, while also questioning the role of social media in young people’s lives.

He also discussed men’s mental health and the lack of awareness around hormonal changes, including what is sometimes described as the male menopause.

David said: “I talked about men’s mental health because I have gone through dark periods. For whatever reason, I don’t know. I can’t tell you why I went into certain times of it being dark.”

He continued by explaining concerns raised in conversations with medical professionals, particularly around testosterone levels and the limited research available.

David added: “No one’s really talking about the male menopause, that it’s actually a thing. It’s the lack of testosterone. And we don’t know what actually, we know what low testosterone is, but we don’t know where the safe level for it should be because there is no actual proper research and the doctors don’t know.”

Man Made is available now across podcast platforms.
