Dr Oscar Duke launches new health podcast Bedside Manners

BBC1’s Morning Live GP Dr Oscar Duke has launched a brand-new podcast series, Bedside Manners, produced by Pixiu.

The weekly series explores what happens when life and medicine collide. Each episode sees Oscar speak with a guest about the health challenges they’ve faced, from chronic conditions and everyday struggles to major surgery, and how those experiences have shaped their lives and careers.

Guests also reflect on memorable encounters with healthcare professionals, discussing the good, the bad, and the surprising.

Top medical specialists will give insights into the science behind each guest’s condition, busting myths and answering common questions.

Each episode ends with a consultant from HCA Healthcare joining Oscar to look further into the guest’s medical experience.

Confirmed guests in the first series include:

  • Paul Whitehouse on life with heart disease
  • Miriam Margolyes on ageing, knee replacements and heart surgery
  • Julia Bradbury on her breast cancer journey
  • Jenny Powell on menopause and hysterectomy
  • Ade Adepitan on polio and navigating life as a wheelchair user
  • Aljaž Škorjanec on living with Psoriasis
  • Lorraine Kelly & Rosie Smith on pregnancy
  • Chloe Meadows on Colitis
  • Mark Mardell & Nick Mostyn on life with Parkinson’s

Born with albinism and registered severely visually impaired at birth, Oscar was once told a career in medicine was out of reach. Now a practising GP, author, and TV doctor, he draws on both professional knowledge and personal experience of the healthcare system.

Oscar began his broadcast career on 24 Hours in A&E, and went on to front award-winning documentaries such as Born Too White on BBC2. He has also appeared across the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. His book How to Be a Dad was published in 2019.

Speaking about the podcast, Oscar said: “We all face health challenges – some are invisible, others are life-changing.

“I want this podcast to show that your diagnosis doesn’t define you. These stories are about strength, grit, hope and humour in the face of adversity and the kind of compassion we all need when facing our own health journeys.”

Bedside Manners is available now on all major podcast platforms, with new episodes every Tuesday.
