Marc Maron has announced the end of his long-running podcast WTF with Marc Maron after 16 years and nearly 2,000 episodes.
The comedian and actor revealed the news during Monday’s episode, confirming that it will conclude in the autumn. Maron launched WTF in September 2009 and has released new episodes twice weekly ever since.
“Sixteen years we’ve been doing this, and we’ve decided that we had a great run,” Maron said. “Now, basically, it’s time, folks. It’s time. WTF is coming to an end. It’s our decision.”
He explained that both he and producer Brendan McDonald had reached burnout after years of intensive work but said they were proud of what they achieved. “We are utterly satisfied with the work we’ve done,” he added. “It’s okay to end things. It’s okay to start another chapter in your life.”
WTF, which began from Maron’s garage during a low point in his life, quickly rose to prominence for its honest, in-depth interviews with guests including Barack Obama, Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman, and Chris Rock. The show won the Governor’s Award at the 2021 Ambies.
Maron said he plans to continue with other creative projects, including a new stand-up special for HBO, and roles in the upcoming films Deliver Me From Nowhere and In Memoriam, as well as Apple’s comedy series Stick.
He thanked listeners for their loyalty and reflected on how the podcast had transformed his life. “We’ve done things we never thought we’d be able to do. It’s just time, folks.”
