New House of the Dragon podcast launched by two fans

Two Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon fans from Ramsgate have launched a new podcast to celebrate their love of all things Westerosi.

Greens Vs Blacks sees Michelle Thomas and Joseph Dance, who also feature in the bookish podcast Novel Thoughts, recap the first season of the HBO hit programme as they wait for season two, which is set to release in June.

“We were chatting about our shared love of George R R Martin’s universe and thought it would be fun to rewatch and recap the first season,” Michelle explains.

“We also thought it would be interesting to explore the links between the invented world of Westeros and our real-world history, literature and culture,” Joseph added. “As many people may know, George R R Martin was inspired by Hadrian’s Wall and the Wars of the Roses, so we’ll dig a little deeper into that lore.”

In each episode the duo take a deeper look at some aspect of the show, such as jousting, courtly love, Arthurian legend and more. They also explore the parallels between real world medieval history and George Martin’s fictional lore. They may also look at other popular culture, films and TV, particularly in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.

Michelle says: “We’re both big fans of shows like Apple TV’s Foundation’ Disney+’s Shogun and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, so we may well feel like discussing topics that relate to House of the Dragon – Shogun, for instance, has been compared by Variety to Game of Thrones, and shares that medieval setting, political intrigue, and a power struggle.”

“Plus, you know, all the explicit sex and graphic violence,” Joseph adds. “The hallmarks of prestige television!”

The first two episodes of Greens Vs Blacks are available now on all podcast platforms including Apple and Spotify.
