New podcast features smart solutions to nonprofit challenges

The Chronicle of Philanthropy is launching a new podcast that spotlights effective nonprofit leadership.

In Nonprofits Now: Leading Today, the Chronicle’s CEO, Stacy Palmer, talks to leaders who offer a master class on a range of essential skills.

Each episode will offer specific, actionable strategies and proven practices to address the most timely and important challenges leaders face.

The podcast series springs from an exclusive Chronicle survey of more than 350 nonprofit CEOs, which found leaders are facing major challenges that range from work-life balance to the strains of fundraising and attracting strong talent.

While the vast majority of CEOs say they love their jobs, those demands are so intense that one-third say they are likely to leave their job within two years. Twenty-two percent say they may quit nonprofit work altogether. Ninety percent say they feel tremendous pressure to succeed.

“We are deeply concerned about the leadership crisis draining the nonprofit world of its top talent,” Palmer said. “Our goal is to help stem those losses by giving leaders the tools and insights they need today — and to ensure they have the support they need to keep leading the nonprofit organisations that are so essential to maintaining the nation’s vitality.”

Topics and guests in the first eight-episode season include:

  • Hiring a senior team that lightens your workload: Valerie Jarrett, Obama Foundation
  • Avoiding burnout and staying healthy: Sean Goode, Movement Makers
  • Managing an intergenerational workplace: Alexandra Bernadotte, Beyond 12, and Elsa Morales-Roth, Emilio Nares Foundation
  • Attracting and retaining top talent: Jordan Shenker, Peninsula Jewish Community Center, and Keena Friday-Gilbert, Association of Infant Mental Health in Tennessee

Nonprofits Now: Leading Today launches on 15 April and will be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms.
