New podcast investigates Spain’s so called anti-tourism protests

The Red Radio Breakfast Show has released the new podcast that exposes the truth behind the so-called “anti-tourism” protests ‘sweeping’ Spain and its islands.

The Big Red Breakfast Show hosts Daz and expat presenter Geoff Wood from the Teesside radio station visited the Spanish Island of Lanzarote and reveal what British tourists need to know.

For months, national media has warned that Spanish locals no longer want tourists, with dramatic headlines predicting a hostile summer for holidaymakers. But after speaking to local officials, business owners, and campaigners, Daz and Geoff uncovered a very different story.

Daz explains: “We went to Lanzarote expecting to find anger, hostility, and protests. What we actually found were local people saying, ‘Come! We need tourism – but we need it to be sustainable.’ The British press has blown this whole thing out of proportion, and it’s time we set the record straight.”

Geoff, who has lived in Lanzarote for years, adds: “Yes, there are protests – but they’re aimed at politicians, not at British tourists. There’s no ‘Brits Go Home’ movement. In fact, the real threat to Spanish resorts is the fearmongering from the national media, which is making holidaymakers hesitate.”

The podcast confirms that Spain isn’t “shutting its doors” to tourists as it hears from Spanish government officials, tourism bosses, and local campaigners. It offers tips for British holidaymakers to ensure a smooth, enjoyable trip to Spain and uncovers why some travel companies might actually benefit from discouraging British tourists from booking Spanish holidays.

Daz and Geoff also visit some of the sights and sounds on offer to tourists and uncover some of the absolute gems of the island.

The podcast is now available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all major streaming platforms – search for The Red Radio.
