New podcast My Podium created by young people under the age of 25

Podium.me, the award-winning audio platform providing training to young journalists and writers around the world, has launched a new podcast, My Podium.

The new series talks about everything from careers and trends to politics and college. It features interviews, documentaries and audio dramas shaped by the opinions of young people and the stories they’re interested in.

Marking the five-year anniversary of the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, My Podium kicks off with five original dramas written by young writers all over the UK.

These dramas are set in Ireland, Scotland and England and tell the fictional stories of people surviving during the strange times of Covid-19 restrictions, often with dark humour and amusing outcomes.

The five writers were identified by Cordelia Galloway who delivered workshops funded by 21st Century Fox.

The dramas include:

  • The Biscuit Tin by Dublin-based writer Ciara Jayne Stagg
An Irish mother and daughter wait at home with a coffin. Will the recently lifted lockdown restrictions mean that their friends will come to the wake? Or will they find a football match and the pub more appealing?
  • Open by award-winning script writer Emily Reader
An elderly lady chooses to celebrate her birthday with a young stranger. Loneliness and connection across generations is an unexpected outcome of this short drama recorded on location in Folkestone, Kent.
  • Saving Mel Spencer by Derbyshire playwright Simon Marshall
A young couple working on a dairy farm in Derbyshire start to imagine what might be going on in the outside world during lockdown. Complete with a cast of cows and imaginary drama involving long lost friends.
  • Home Brew by BAFTA nominated comedy writer Katie Sayer
The romance of meeting by the sewage works near the Oxford ringroad is waning during lockdown walks. What will they find to talk about over their picnic this time?
  • Doug the Dog by Scottish writer Susan Aitken
A Glasgow hospital, a granny, two adult granddaughters and a dog. Doug the dog is one of the highlights of this energetic and very Scottish audio drama.
