New season’s first episode of Spiked Eggs podcast Dark Ellie listen here

Indie audio fiction series Spiked Eggs podcast is launching season two with Dark Ellie, the latest stand-alone episode in this anthology series.

Based on a short story by dark fiction author Lee Glenwright and adapted as an audio horror by Spiked Egg’s producer and director, Jane D Watson, “Ellie” is played by London-based actress Beth Eyre.

Beth is a multi-award-winning actor for stage, screen and audio, who has worked extensively in audio drama and narration. She has appeared in many fiction podcasts over the years, but it was her role as Antigone Funn in Wooden Overcoats, which brought her numerous awards and a global cult following.

“Wooden Overcoats is the reason I fell in love with audio drama,” says Watson. “As a fan, I dreamed of one day creating my own series. I’m just starting to produce the second season of Spiked Eggs. I still feel like a novice at this, and to be able to collaborate with an artist like Beth, whose work I have long admired, well, that feels incredible. That’s what make the audio fiction community so special.  It’s warm and supportive.”

The new episode sees Ellie waking up to find herself being held prisoner, with no memory or explanation as to why. All she knows is there’s a wall between her and her captors. She has no idea what lies ahead or who’s on the other side of that wall.

In addition to Beth, others appearing in the episode include regular Spiked Eggs cast members Colleen Arnold, John Kennard, Carrie Drovdlic, Jane Wing and Steve Jones.

Winner of the Hollywood Series Awards “Best Fiction Comedy Podcast” in 2024, Dark Ellie represents a departure from comedy for Spiked Eggs.

Also In 2024, Spiked Eggs won three silver Signal Awards for editing, sound design and best fiction podcast, competing against multiple Audible, Broadway Video (SNL) and other podcast productions.

Dark Ellie is officially launched tomorrow, Wednesday 7 May but you can listen to it now here.
