New series of Tony Robinson’s Cunningcast set to launch

Actor, presenter and author, Sir Tony Robinson is back with a second series of his history with a twist podcast.

Tony Robinson’s Cunningcast combines his unique blend of wit, brains, and humour, with his passion for popular history to explore a new selection of his curated histories with a line-up of expert guests.

Common to many of the projects throughout Tony’s career, is an unwavering passion for history, a thirst for seeking out knowledge, and looking at the past to understand more about the present and the world around us.

Produced by Zinc Audio, the audio division of Zinc Media Group, across 14 episodes, series two topics will include:

  • What do BONES tell us about past humanity with PROFESSOR ALICE ROBERTS
  • Harry Houdini to David Blaine: conjuring up the history of stage MAGIC
  • Who built HADRIAN’S WALL and why?
  • From aristocratic dining centrepieces to kids’ party favourites – a wobbly history of JELLY
  • How does the past inform the future of CAR engineering and sustainability?
  • Dr WHO at 60:  exploring the history of Britain’s most famous time traveller with Ace aka Sophie Aldred.

Also, and following Tony’s special Blackadder 40th anniversary feature documentary for UKTV Gold, Blackadder: The Lost Pilot, there will be four special Cunningcast episodes digging deeper into the history of the iconic comedy show. These will feature Blackadder writers Richard Curtis and Ben Elton, music composer Howard Goodall, and comedian and Blackadder superfan, David Mitchell.

The new series begins with an episode about tattoos. Tony is joined by tattoo experts Dr Matt Lodder, Senior Lecturer School of Philosophical, Historical and Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Essex, and tattoo artist, presenter, and influencer Grace Neutral to discuss where tattoos come from?  What’s the history behind them?  Where can we find the oldest tattoo?  And when did the tattoo stop being taboo?

Tony says: “I’m delighted to be presenting another fantastic series of Cunningcast. It’s a pure delight to be able to explore more of the wonderful histories of things that I am curious about with some of the smartest guests around, and some of my dearest friends.”

Series producer Melissa FitzGerald added: “We’re busy building on the success of the first series and amping up production with lots more filmed content more interaction with the Cunningcast community, we can’t wait to share these episodes with Cunningcast fans.”

Cunningcast is part of the Acast Creator Network and series two is available from 8 February on all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts.
