Noiser launches Real Vikings podcast narrated by Iain Glen

A new ten-part history podcast exploring the real stories of the Vikings narrated by British actor Iain Glen launches is set to launch.

Award winning podcast network Noiser has announced Real Vikings, a series examining the history behind one of the most documented cultures of the early medieval period.

Narrated by Iain Glen, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey, the podcast focuses on myth-busting and fresh historical insight, to reach both established history listeners and those new to the subject.

Across ten episodes, the series follows figures including Ragnar Lothbrok, Canute and Harald Hardrada, alongside accounts of raids, battles and the expansion of Viking influence across Europe and beyond.

The podcast also explores lesser-known stories, including a Viking-era murder mystery on Dorset’s Chesil Beach, the founding of Iceland’s Althing parliament, and Norse graffiti discovered in Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia. It traces reported Viking journeys to Vinland, centuries before Christopher Columbus reached the Americas.

Real Vikings will be available from 10 March on major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and ad-free on BBC Sounds.

Subscribers to Noiser+ will also receive ad-free listening, bonus material and early access to new episodes across the network.
