Emmanuel Petit is the guest on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad and The Football hosted by Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Paddy McGuinness.
In the episode, Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt shared concerns about being followed by cameras after reports that the club will feature in a future series of the football documentary All or Nothing.
Speaking on the podcast alongside co-host Paddy McGuinness and former France international Emmanuel Petit, both former United players said they would have found the experience difficult during their playing careers.
When asked whether the documentary could add pressure on new head coach Michael Carrick, Paddy McGuinness suggested: “Is that extra pressure on Carrick?”
Paul Scholes replied: “Yeah probably. But for a fan, they are brilliant to watch. Not for a player.”
Nicky Butt agreed, saying: “I would not like it.”
Scholes added: “As a player, I can’t think of anything worse.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Emmanuel Petit revealed he has lost the World Cup winners’ medal he earned with France in 1998.
After Scholes jokingly asked whether he ever looked at his medal, Petit admitted: “I’ve lost it. It p*sses me off so much you have no idea.”
The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder said moving house several times in recent years had contributed to the loss and added that thinking about it still keeps him awake at night.
Discussion also turned to the strength of the current France national team ahead of the next World Cup.
Petit said France possess some of the world’s strongest individual players but questioned whether the squad is the best international side overall.
“We are not the best team,” he said, highlighting concerns about the balance of the defence and midfield.
He also suggested teams capable of controlling possession, including Spain, Portugal and England, could expose weaknesses in transition.
The episode concluded with Scholes, Butt and Petit selecting a combined England and France XI. Reece James was preferred over Jules Koundé, while all three chose Miles O’Reilly ahead of Theo Hernandez.
In attack, Scholes selected Michael Olise ahead of Bukayo Saka and described Kylian Mbappé as “the best player in the world” when comparing him with Harry Kane.
