Greg James and Bella Mackie return to host a new series of BBC Radio 5 Live’s Teach Me A Lesson, the podcast that offers listeners the chance to learn something new about compelling subjects from inspiring teachers.
Each week, Greg and Bella receive an informal lesson from one of the country’s finest educators about something they are truly passionate about. Having covered a wide range of topics last term, from Can We Trust Our Own Memories? to How Can We Move To The Moon? the new series will explore subjects including the gender balance at home, whether humans could actually get super powers, how rats helped win WW2 and how to avoid typecasting.
The first episode kicks off with How Equal Is Your House? and sees Greg and Bella quiz sociology teacher Ms Sewell about why Greg not picking up his pants might be a feminist issue; why the Simpsons are so useful to sociologists; the surprising link between Greg’s love of baths and equality and why Bluey’s dad from CBeebies is Mrs Sewell’s hero.
Inquisitive and competitive to a fault, the husband-and-wife duo are ready to learn and inject some humour – and a bit of bickering – along the way. As well as deep-dives into fascinating fields of expertise, it also spotlights the brilliant communicators who motivate and inspire children across the country.
Greg and Bella say: “We’re thrilled to be back with a new series of Teach Me A Lesson. After season one, it’s clear we’re not the only ones who find learning more interesting as adults. Having tackled subjects like How Do We Move To The Moon? and How To Win An Argument, we’ve got some more fantastic teachers lined up and ready to share their favourite lessons with us. Get ready to return to the classroom for some thought-provoking discussions. And as always, we promise not to give you any homework.”
The bonus Break Time episodes, available only on BBC Sounds, also return this term with Greg and Bella talking to celebrity guests about their school days. Previous guests include Clara Amfo, Joe Lycett, Clare Balding and Tan France.
Series two of Teach Me A Lesson is available on BBC Sounds from today (1 November), with new episodes every Monday.
