Best Friend Therapy is a new podcast hosted by Elizabeth Day, the award-winning journalist, author and host of the hugely popular podcast How To Fail with Elizabeth Day, and her best friend of over 20 years, psychotherapist and author Emma Reed Turrell.
Each week, Elizabeth and Emma will talk about how to tackle the challenges they face in daily life with honesty, compassion and practical wisdom.
Topics included will be from coping with anxiety to people-pleasing; from misplaced guilt to setting healthy boundaries.
Discussing the podcast, Elizabeth Day says: “When Emma came on How To Fail to talk about people-pleasing, there was such an amazing response that it felt like a natural next step to launch our own podcast. In Best Friend Therapy we want to have conversations which help, enrich and nurture the listener – and maybe even make them laugh a bit too!
“I’ve always benefited so enormously from having a best friend who is also a therapist that I wanted to share that gift because I know that therapy often feels scary or expensive or isn’t easily available for those who need it. Although we’re not providing professional therapy, I hope our podcast will give an insight into why we act the way we do and offer a compassionate weekly chat for anyone wanting to feel less alone. It’s a total joy working with someone I love and I want anyone who listens to feel part of our friendship too.”
Emma Reed Turrell adds: “As a psychotherapist, I get to have meaningful conversations with my clients every day, so I’m really excited to be able to bring some of the insight and understanding I’ve gained over the years to a wider audience through Best Friend Therapy.
“I know how lucky I am to have a best friend as warm, generous and funny as Elizabeth and there’s no one I’d rather team up with to have the conversations that matter most. I hope that through our honesty and friendship, listeners will feel part of a genuine and uplifting conversation that creates a valuable space to reflect, recharge or just relax.”
Episodes are available every Monday from today (28 March) on Global Player and other podcast platforms.
