BBC Studios Audio is launching a new six-part true crime series, The Hunter, exclusively on Wondery+.
Narrated by actor, theatre director and advocate Anaya Echo Hawk, the series follows the extraordinary story of American mother Lydia Lerma, who risks everything to find justice for her son.
After her son’s abuser escapes justice and flees to Mexico, Lydia puts together an unlikely team to track him down, including a police detective, a professional hunter, a district attorney, a Navajo handtrembler, an anonymous tipster and an Apache medicine man. Together they set out on a relentless pursuit from Colorado’s Rocky Mountains to the streets of Cuauhtémoc, Mexico, leading to a dramatic courtroom showdown.
The Hunter explores themes of justice, survival, community strength, the healing power of nature and the unbreakable will of a mother fighting for her child.
James Cook, Factual Creative Director for BBC Studios Audio, said the show will grip listeners: “We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary story to international audiences on Wondery+.
“The Hunter is full of tension and jaw-dropping moments and has an extraordinary woman at its centre – a mother determined to never give up on getting justice for her son.
“The series is another example of BBC Studios’ world-class narrative storytelling, and we can’t wait for audiences to be drawn into this gripping show.”
All episodes are available from today, 8 July exclusively to subscribers of Wondery’s premium service, Wondery+.
