Podcast Movement and Sounds Profitable merge in seven figure deal

Two of podcasting’s most influential organisations are joining forces, with Podcast Movement acquiring trade association Sounds Profitable.

The seven-figure deal announced today, will see Sounds Profitable continue as a leading industry body, with a focus on research, insights and thought leadership.

Co-founders Bryan Barletta and Tom Webster remain shareholders, while Barletta takes on the role of President of Podcast Movement and the continuing Sounds Profitable brand.

Podcast Movement will continue to produce its flagship events while expanding into more global industry events, including Cannes Lions, SXSW, The Podcast Show London and Advertising Week. The move aims to create a “central force” for the podcast industry, combining event expertise with deep research capabilities.

“This merger unites two leading organisations that have, until now, independently been both champions and catalysts, supporting the growth of the entire podcasting industry,” said Barletta. “We’ll be able to amplify our mission to connect creators, brands, and innovators while providing an unmatched event experience.”

Podcast Movement co-founder Dan Franks will remain President of Event Movement, which will expand to support Sounds Profitable’s branded events alongside Podcast Movement’s own conferences.

Franks said the merger offers “an incredible opportunity” to evolve with the industry and bring flagship experiences to more audiences.

Podcast Movement’s main annual event will be held in New York for the first time in September 2026, while its Podcast Movement Evolutions conference will merge with SXSW for a bigger joint event.

Further details will be revealed during the keynote session at Podcast Movement in Dallas, Texas tomorrow, 19 August.
