Spotify lets Premium users add custom transitions to playlists

Spotify has launched a new beta feature giving Premium users the ability to add and customise transitions between songs in their playlists.

The update, announced this week, allows listeners to adjust how tracks flow into each other with tools such as volume controls, EQ, effect curves, and beat-matching.

Users can start with an instant “Auto” blend or customise their mixes with presets like Fade or Rise, before saving and sharing their creations.

With almost 9 billion playlists already created on the platform, Spotify says the new feature is designed to empower music fans to shape their listening experience further.

The tool also highlights tempo and key information, making it easier to match songs naturally, while dance genres such as house and techno are recommended for the smoothest transitions.

Premium users can also design custom artwork for their mixed playlists, adding stickers and labels available only for this format. Playlists can be collaborative, allowing friends who also subscribe to Premium to build seamless sets together.

Spotify suggests the new tool will be particularly useful for workouts, road trips, or parties where users want uninterrupted music and consistent energy. “Mix” mode can be toggled on or off at any time within the app, giving creators full control over their soundtracking.

The feature is rolling out now to eligible Premium users worldwide, with the company encouraging listeners to ensure their app is updated to access the new tools.
