More Than The Score is a new daily sports podcast from BBC World Service offering a fresh international take on sport every weekday.
The series promises to go beyond the scores and headlines, exploring the debates, personalities and stories that shape global sport.
Covering everything from athletics and football to tennis and ice hockey, each episode will aim to bring a different perspective on the sporting world.
The presenting team features well-known BBC Sport voices including John Bennett, Katie Smith, Maz Farookhi, Mani Djazmi, Lee James, Ed Harry and Ade Adedoyin, who will rotate across the week to front the show.
The first episode, How Much Do World Records Matter?, looks at the extraordinary achievements of Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis.
Having broken the men’s pole vault world record for the thirteenth time, and the third this year, with a jump of 6.29m at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Duplantis joins the podcast ahead of the Tokyo World Championships.
Hosts Ed Harry and Ade Adedoyin are joined by US athletics commentator Larry Elder to debate the value of world records, the response from fellow athletes, and whether some records will remain untouchable.
Future episodes will tackle striking themes, including “From Prison to the Premier League – a story fit for Hollywood”, with former footballer Jamie Lawrence sharing his journey from prison to professional sport, alongside plans for a film adaptation of his life story.
Another programme will examine what it takes for stars like Mohamed Salah to reach the top of their game and sustain elite performance over time.
Colin Patterson, Editor of BBC World Service Sport, said: “More Than The Score is a new daily podcast that takes a different approach to international sport. It will provide a mix of untold stories, interesting debate and the best content BBC Sport has to offer.
“Its format Monday to Friday means that listeners can get their daily hit of global sports news wherever they are. I’m excited to share it with listeners.”
Anna Doble, Sport and Digital Editor at BBC World Service, added: “This new daily sport podcast will do what it promises: deliver new angles on international sport stories and take listeners to the people beyond the scoresheet.
“It will zoom in on the talking points gripping the sporting world and feature great interviews, every weekday.”
More Than The Score will be available from 8 September on BBC Sounds and other podcast platforms.
