The Truth, the acclaimed audio drama podcast, is relaunching with new stories and a new distribution partner, Realm.
Since its launch in 2012, The Truth has set the standard for modern audio drama anthologies, praised for its ability to mix sharp writing, immersive soundscapes, and natural performances into stories that feel as powerful as cinema.
The podcast has been downloaded more than 30 million times and has built a devoted audience that values audio fiction which pushes boundaries and delivers impact.
Recognition for The Truth has been consistent across the industry. Apple Podcasts recently named it one of its “20 Podcasts We Love,” while The Guardian called it “the benchmark for fiction-based audio anthologies”.
Last month, it ranked at number 36 on Left of Dial Media’s 100 Greatest Podcasts of All Time list. Its stories have also been featured on This American Life and Snap Judgment, and the show has received honours including multiple Sarah Awards and The HearSay Audio Prize.
The relaunch opens with four new episodes across October and November. These include Operation Skill Shot by Hunter Nelson, about a pinball enthusiast whose obsession leads to an unexpected pursuit; Here I Am by Louis Kornfeld, where a mother learns piano to connect with her silent son; The Joke by Mary McDonnell, set in a future where one archivist discovers the power of a lost joke; and The Projectionists by Davy Gardner, which twists a date night into a surreal confrontation with film itself.
“These stories show what The Truth does best, they’re cinematic, emotional, and take you somewhere unexpected,” said producer Jonathan Mitchell. “They all explore the yearning for meaning and connection, which is a very relatable feeling these days.”
The show’s return was made possible by listeners, with a successful fundraising campaign earlier this year that included a vinyl release of two classic episodes: Moon Graffiti, winner of the 2012 Gold Mark Time Award, and Silvia’s Blood, a fan favourite.
The Truth returns from 9 October.
