The Royal Mint Museum launches second podcast series on coins

The Royal Mint Museum has launched its latest podcast series The Secret Life of Coins, exploring the surprising and often overlooked roles coins have played beyond money.

Each episode features stories where coins were used for far more than trade, from political protests and national timekeeping to magic tricks, healing and social change.

The series builds on the success of last year’s Coins and the Sea podcast to reach wider audiences with engaging historical storytelling.

Museum Director Dr Kevin Clancy said: “In an era of strained budgets and contested narratives, reaching and engaging with new audiences has never been more important for museums. To do this, we have been embracing the online world and, in particular, podcasting.

“Following the success of last year’s Coins and the Sea podcast, the Museum team has been hard at work planning and developing our second podcast series, which it is hoped will further reach a new, more digitally focussed, audience.”

The new series has been created with contributions from leading voices at national institutions, museums and research networks.

Guests include experts from the Houses of Parliament, the Foundling Museum and campaigner Helen Pankhurst, helping to reveal the broader cultural and political significance of coins through time.

The Secret Life of Coins is available now on all podcast platforms and via the Royal Mint Museum’s website.
