Alan Davies has shared a story from the late 1990s that still makes him cringe on this week’s episode of her Katherine Ryan’s What’s My Age Again? podcast
He revealed that he regrets the way he handled an encounter with Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston.
The Jonathan Creek actor recalled meeting the Friends actress back in 1997 when they were both appearing at a Prince’s Trust Gala.
“Jennifer Aniston had been flown over and was interviewed on stage by Joanna Lumley,” Alan said. “She wore this kind of gown with spaghetti straps, flawless skin, beautiful face and hair — it was just extraordinary.”
He explained that after performing a stand-up routine about his dog, Aniston approached him at the after-show party.
“I imagined she was going to walk past me, but she said she liked dogs,” he said. “And I just froze. I thought, she wants to chat about dogs.”
Alan went on to joke that she was clearly interested in more than small talk: “Of course, what she was trying to do was seduce me,” he joked. “She’d chosen me – right age, sense of humour, dog lover – and then what I did was introduce her to the cast of Coronation Street.”
During the episode, Alan also discussed his new book, explaining that he’d written it for his children and revealed his surprisingly low biological age.
“I’d kind of written them for the kids really and they’re not old enough to read them yet,” he said. “I think they know what’s gone on a bit because they can Google me.”
