The viral storytelling project A View From A Bridge is expanding beyond social media with a new podcast series.
With more than 150 million views and over half a million followers on Instagram, the new series offers listeners the full-length conversations behind its viral clips.
Created and produced by artist Joe Bloom, A View From A Bridge became known for its format of people from all walks of life, from passersby to well-known musicians, actors and activists, standing on a bridge, holding a red telephone, and sharing intimate reflections in their own words.
The podcast now reveals those extended, unedited conversations, arranged into themed episodes that explore the human experience in depth.
Each episode draws on stories gathered from bridges around the world, forming what Bloom describes as “an archive of contemporary life”.
He said: “I want the show to make people laugh and I want the show to make people cry. Ultimately, I want A View From A Bridge podcast to be a vessel which helps people engage with humanity.”
A notable episode, To Be Or Not To Be… A Parent, explores the complex emotions surrounding parenthood.
It features singer Self Esteem, musician Alex Kapranos, filmmaker Jonathan, and Alexandra, whose account of surviving a traumatic childbirth shines light on the silence surrounding birth trauma in the UK.
Other themes include Leaving Home, with stories of displacement and self-discovery featuring Waad Al-Kateab, Something Changed with Jason Williamson and Perfume Genius, and I’m Alive! with poet and musician Kae Tempest.
Produced by Bloom, A View From A Bridge launches its first three episodes on all major podcast platforms today, 15 October.
