First Golden Globes Best Podcast is Good Hang with Amy Poehler

Amy Poehler has become the first ever Golden Globe winner for podcasting.

The Parks and Recreation and Saturday Night Live star took home the inaugural Golden Globe for Best Podcast for Good Hang With Amy Poehler, marking the first time the awards ceremony has recognised podcasts as part of its main honours.

The win is a major milestone for the show, which launched just ten months ago through Paper Kite Productions and The Ringer, but quickly built momentum with high-profile guests drawn from Poehlerโ€™s long comedy career and close friendships.

Accepting the award, Poehler acknowledged she is relatively new to podcasting and said she had deep respect for the format and for the other nominees in the category. She also joked about the number of film and television stars now launching podcasts.

Poehler continued by reflecting on the purpose behind the podcast, describing it as a way to bring warmth and connection during difficult times.

โ€œThis is an attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter, and laughing with people, not at them,โ€ she said.

The award was presented by Snoop Dogg, who joked about entering podcast awards races himself and described podcasting as a space that is โ€œpopping right about nowโ€.

Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser introduced the new category with a pre-recorded sketch parodying Nicole Kidmanโ€™s famous AMC Theatres cinema advert, reimagined around the shared rituals of listening to podcasts.

The sketch included clips from other nominated shows, mock ad breaks, and cameos from figures including Marc Maron, who ended his long-running interview podcast WTF last October.

Nominees for Best Podcast included Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Smartless, The Mel Robbins Podcast and Up First, selected from 25 eligible podcasts invited to submit entries by data partner Luminate.

Spotifyโ€™s VP, Global Head of Podcasts, Roman Wasenmรผller said: โ€œGood Hang with Amy Poehler winning Best Podcast at the Golden Globes is a powerful validation of what weโ€™ve long believed – that podcasts are one of the most impactful and culturally relevant forms of storytelling today.

โ€œAmy, with her team and The Ringer, have created something truly special, and this recognition celebrates the creativity, heart, and ambition behind their work.

โ€œTo see a podcast honoured on this global stage is not only a win for Good Hang, but a defining moment for podcasting and Spotify.โ€
