Hugh Bonneville narrates new Hound of the Baskervilles podcast series

A new nine-part podcast series will bring The Hound of the Baskervilles back to its original episodic format for audio listeners.

Noiser is launching the series, narrated by Hugh Bonneville, with the first episode released on 27 April.

The production presents Arthur Conan Doyle’s story across nine instalments, each ending on a cliffhanger, reflecting how it was first published in The Strand magazine more than 125 years ago.

It marks the first time the original serial structure has been recreated specifically for a podcast audience.

Hugh Bonneville, who also hosts Sherlock Holmes Short Stories, said: “There’s a reason this story has never left us, and Arthur Conan Doyle knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote it to land in nine parts.

“Getting to bring that structure back, to let listeners feel those cliffhangers the way Victorian readers felt them, is a rare opportunity. I wanted to honour the material and make it feel alive for new audiences today.”

The series features original sound design, alongside a new score and artwork, designed to recreate the atmosphere of Dartmoor within an audio setting.

Katrina Hughes, Executive Producer at Noiser, said: “125 years on, this story still has the power to stop you cold, which tells you everything about why it’s a classic. We wanted to mark the anniversary of The Hound of the Baskervilles with a production that truly rose to the occasion.”

The podcast will be distributed across major platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify, as well as on BBC Sounds without advertising. It will be released twice weekly on the Sherlock Holmes Short Stories feed.

Noiser+ subscribers will receive early access to episodes ahead of general release, including the first episode on 23 April.
