The Guardian will stage a live US edition of its Football Weekly podcast during the 2026 World Cup.
It will take place in New York City on 16 July, three days before the World Cup final in the New York and New Jersey area and will also be available as a global livestream.
Hosted by Max Rushden and Barry Glendenning, the live event marks 20 years of the podcast and brings its weekly football analysis to a US audience at a key moment in the tournament.
The production will be held at the Bowery Ballroom, with additional podcast guests expected to be announced closer to the date.
Alongside the live recording, the Guardian is launching a new World Behind the Cup newsletter as part of its wider editorial plans around the 2026 World Cup.
Coverage will involve dozens of reporters based across North America, focusing on both the football and the wider context of the tournament.
The event will also be available to watch on demand for four weeks after broadcast for those who purchase access.
Fans can attend in person or watch online via the Guardian’s ticket page theguardian.com/footballweeklylive.
