Dark comedy podcast explores family secrets through sitcom lens

A new narrative podcast uses comedy to unpack hidden family truths and personal history.

Everybody Knows But Me follows comedian Holly Anabel Brown as she revisits a moment from her teenage years that reshaped her understanding of her family.

When she was 17 and dealing with her father’s terminal cancer diagnosis, she discovered he had secretly fathered twin sons, something the rest of her family already knew.

The first series focuses on Holly’s decision to finally confront that revelation. It explores the emotional impact of uncovering long-held secrets and the challenge of reconnecting with people tied to a past she had avoided.

Produced by Next Chapter Podcasts and Companion, the show combines scripted storytelling with documentary elements.

Each episode opens with a scene from Holly’s life, presented in the style of a 1990s sitcom, before shifting into a narrated account supported by interviews with family and friends.

The format reflects Holly’s interest in classic television comedy, drawing on familiar storytelling rhythms to frame a more serious and personal subject.

Her father’s career as a television set dresser, including work on Frasier, also informs the structure and tone of the series.

Jeremiah Tittle, Chief Executive Officer of Next Chapter Podcasts, said: “Holly’s story is beyond compelling, but it’s her rare combination of humour, humility, and vulnerability to let the world in on her family secrets, unsure of what she might uncover in her search for the truth, inspiring us by her courage to shine a light on the elephant in the room.”

Holly has built a stand-up career in the US mixing dark humour with candid storytelling. She has performed at festivals including SF Sketchfest and the SLO Comedy Festival and has appeared on podcasts such as The Daily Zeitgeist and The Dork Forest.

Everybody Knows But Me launches on 22 April and will release new episodes weekly across major podcast platforms.
