Will Buxton and David Coulthard discuss Monaco’s unique demands, Ferrari confidence, and standout career moments on Global’s Up To Speed podcast.
David Coulthard reflects on a qualifying lap he considers the best of his Formula One career, describing the level of commitment required around the Monaco barriers.
“I’m going to say that was the best lap of my life, because you kiss the barrier on more than one occasion. There is nothing but full commitment and belief.” He also adds, “I remember feeling that it was mine.”
Ferrari arrive in Monaco with confidence, with Coulthard noting expectations within the team that they can fight at the front in what he describes as a highly competitive weekend: “The word on the street is that Ferrari believe that they’re going to be in a really competitive position here.”
Despite criticism of the circuit, Coulthard argues Monaco remains central to Formula One’s identity, combining glamour, danger and precision in a way few venues can match: “It’s still glamorous, it’s exciting, it’s dangerous, it’s sexy, it’s everything that Formula One should be.”
Buxton also highlights Lewis Hamilton’s improving form at Ferrari, suggesting a return to familiar confidence, while also noting Lando Norris’s ease and composure as the Monaco weekend approaches.
