Tom Baker MBE is back as Sir Sherlock Holmes in a new audio drama from AUK Studios, with fans now able to pre order the production through Kickstarter.
Sir Sherlock: The Sickle and the Sea is the second adventure in the Sir Sherlock series and reunites Tom with John Leeson as Doctor Watson.
The original audio drama is written by Kenton Hall, who has also written an expanded novelisation that will be published in paperback and hardback by Chinbeard Books.
The story follows Sir Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson and Sergeant Emily Lestrade after a secret visit to the newly formed Soviet Union.
Aboard a Russian cargo ship, they are drawn into a mystery after a body is discovered that appears to have drowned despite being completely dry.
Kenton described the new story as a “suitably knotty mystery for the newly knighted detective”.
“Holmes in the 1920s meant a changing post-war world. From there, it was only a gangway’s stride to the shipboard Russian mystery that is ‘The Sickle and the Sea’,” he said.
Katy Ashworth returns as Emily Lestrade, alongside Wink Taylor and Conrad Westmaas. Guest cast members include Michael Fenton-Stevens, Kate Harbour, Ben Perkins and Philip Pope. Nicholas Rowe also returns to the series in a new role as Alexander Ivanov.
Michael said: “Taking part in this wonderful ensemble piece reminded me of the finest days of audio work… To be one of a group of skilled and practised professional actors, gathered in a room, willing each other to be better than they would be individually, was a joy.”
Kate added: “I loved recording Lena Ivanov for The Sickle and the Sea… I can’t wait to hear all the rest of the episodes of Sir Sherlock!”
The project is available to pre order through Kickstarter until 9 July.
