I’m Not a Monster has won Best Documentary Podcast for the inaugural Podcast Academy Awards for Excellence in Audio, The Ambies.
Of the 164 nominees across 23 categories, fewer than 10% of nominees were from outside the US and I’m Not a Monster is the only podcast outside of the US to take home a win from the awards.
I’m Not a Monster from BBC Panorama and Frontline (PBS) was also nominated in two other categories including Best True Crime Podcast and Best Reporting.
The podcast, which unearthed the truth about an American mother who took her children into the heart of the ISIS caliphate, was the first time two of the world’s most respected investigative teams had come together to co-produce a major podcast for BBC Sounds.
It was produced by the combined team including Emma Rippon (BBC), Joe Kent (BBC) and Max Green (Frontline PBS). The podcast was commissioned by Dylan Haskins and Jason Phipps (BBC Sounds) in collaboration with Raney Aronson and her team at Frontline (PBS) and Karen Wightman and Rachel Jupp at BBC Panorama.
