Audio Storytelling for Radio and Podcast MA scholarships offered by UCL
UCL, the UK’s University of the Year, is offering free tuition fees and a £15,700 living allowance for those with links to East London to help advance their career in the audio industry.
The university’s East London Scholarship scheme is open to home students who are interested in studying for a Master’s degree programme but are finding finance a barrier.
There are 10 scholarships available, with two awards ring-fenced for eligible final year UCL undergraduates.
Journalist and documentary maker Athar Ahmad, who is heading up the MA in Audio Storytelling for Radio and Podcast, one of the eligible Master’s programmes, believes the scholarships are helping redefine the audio landscape.
“This year, recipients of the UCL East London scholarship won the prestigious Charles Parker Prize, will pitch their story ideas at Sheffield Doc Fest and have even had documentaries commissioned by Radio 4,” Athar says. “Opening up the industry and making it more accessible to people from a diverse range of backgrounds is key, ensuring distinctive voices have a chance to be heard and nuanced stories are told.”
The scholarships coincide with the expansion of UCL’s new campus in Stratford, which has been designed to bring together diverse disciplines to collaborate, ensuring UCL’s research and teaching is embedded in and relevant to local communities.
UCL is consistently ranked as one of the top ten universities in the world.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Thursday 20 June at the UCL website.
