Brand new consumer led programme coming to BBC Sounds

Consumer Fight Back with Holly Hamilton will be out and about each week to tackle issues head on and chase the stories which really matter to consumers.

No topic will be too big or small as the team look at everything from travel costs and deep fakes to ‘hello scams’ and childcare charges.

As well as being available on BBC Sounds, the programme will also air on BBC Radio Ulster.

Holly Hamilton says: “The important thing about this new programme is that it’s live and moving. We will be dealing with some big stories, and we want to get straight to the heart of things and get answers for consumers.

“However, it’s also about the smaller things in life, those aspects of your life which can be quite irritating, and that we almost just learn to accept and deal with. And we feel on this programme we want to ask why should that be? Why should you accept the status quo?

“We really want to hear from listeners and would encourage people to contact the programme with tips or questions about issues or experiences they’re facing.

“The idea of scams, for example, is something which has now become so intrinsic within our lives we want to spread the word and allow people to share their stories and to help warn others. We are here for you, so do get in touch.”

Andy Martin, Executive Editor Documentaries, Drama and Comedy with BBC Northern Ireland, adds: “This show will be a bit different. You’ll hear the team working through the dilemmas, investigating tip-offs and running stories to ground.

“You’ll see behind the scenes, get to understand our production process, and hear the interrogation of the laws and organisations that people bring to our attention. But it will also flip the normal consumer show mantra.

“We’ll look also into vexatious complaints, illustrate how institutions, small businesses and organisations have to spend time and often public money dealing with problems they perhaps should not. It’s made in Belfast, but its themes will apply across the UK and Ireland.”

If you have a story, tips or questions for the team, contact the programme at: CFB @bbc.co.uk.

Consumer Fight Back with Holly Hamilton will be available on BBC Sounds from Saturday 19 October and also broadcast every Saturday on BBC Radio Ulster at 10am.
