Daily Mail’s Pipeline hits number one on US podcast charts

Daily Mail’s investigative podcast Pipeline has surged to number one in the US Apple podcast charts.

This marks a first for a British newspaper breaking through in America’s crowded true crime market.

The six-part series tells the shocking true story of the Paria disaster in Trinidad and Tobago, where four divers lost their lives in 2022 after being sucked into a thirty-inch underwater pipeline.

Only one man survived, and Pipeline features his exclusive first-hand account along with never-before-heard GoPro audio from inside the pipe, capturing the divers’ final moments.

Mail reporter Isabelle Stanley leads the investigation, uncovering alleged criminal negligence, failed rescue attempts and high-level political cover-ups linked to the tragic event.

The podcast’s rapid rise has seen it beat industry heavyweights including Sony Music Entertainment and the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team to claim the top spot in the United States.

Jamie East, dmg media’s Head of Podcasts, praised the team behind the hit series: “Pipeline is the result of an incredible amount of hard work from a brilliant podcast team, with Isabelle Stanley and Bella Soames at the helm.

“Great stories are at the heart of everything the Daily Mail does, and I hope the number of people now aware of this awful and preventable tragedy will spur the relevant authorities on to do the decent thing and compensate the victims’ families.”

East also underlined dmg media’s growing international ambitions: “It highlights our intention and ambition to be a global podcast network and I’m grateful for the support we’ve received from our friends at Apple.”

Pipeline is available to listen to now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and all major podcast platforms.
