Dave Berry’s Dadpod podcast hears from Jeff Brazier

Jeff Brazier features on this week’s episode of Dave Berry’s Dadpod – a parenting podcast that features discussion on the topic of fatherhood.

The podcast launched last year, coinciding with Absolute Radio host Dave Berry becoming a father for the first time. One year on, and Dave’s little girl Evie is nearly 2 years old as the Dadpod returns with a new line-up of famous mums and dads.

Jeff is a TV presenter, author, life coach, football pundit and dad to his two sons Bobby and Freddie. He explained to Dave how his family coped during lockdown: “It’s been a very difficult time for everybody,” he said, adding: “But in terms of my family I’d say we can take small positives in the fact that we were able to reconnect in a way that teenagers don’t usually allow. So, we went on our bike rides, we walked, we learned maybe a little bit more about each other than we would have otherwise, and I think it gave us all a bit of time to reflect.”

Speaking about parenting his teenage sons as they enter adulthood, Jeff says that he encourages a work ethic in them, and he also discusses Freddie’s struggles at school with ADHD.

Learning of his biological father, who he opened up about in an Instagram post earlier this year, Jeff shares how learning about him has changed his perspective on parenting and that he has recently reconciled his relationship with his step-father.

Jeff also shares that he’s been in psychotherapy for a process called re-parenting which is to do with childhood rejection and abandonment plus the effects of being in foster care.

He says: “The last two and a half years has been absolutely vital for me becoming the best version of myself, if you like, the version of myself that I may have been if the circumstances were different when I was younger.

“I appreciate that not everybody can afford the different types of therapy that are available to you but if you are brave enough to do it, it is nothing short of life changing.”

Dave Berry’s Dadpod will be available to download every Thursday from Apple Podcasts, Spotify, the Absolute Radio app, absoluteradio.co.uk, and all mainstream podcast providers.
