Dive & Dig series two explores the ancient underwater world

A new five-part series of Dive & Dig, believed to be the first podcast dedicated to underwater (or marine) archaeology, is set to launch on World Archaeology Day.

Hosted by historian, Professor Bettany Hughes, and maritime archaeologist, Dr Lucy Blue, the podcast will explore maritime archaeology of the ancient world, from the Stone Age to the Roman period.

The pair journey across the Mediterranean and the Red Sea to explore one of the world’s largest archaeological digs, the oldest underwater settlement in the Aegean, the world’s oldest artificial harbour and ancient shipwrecks lost beneath the waves.

Each episode focuses on a key site, from submerged prehistoric settlements to ancient shipwrecks. They reveal how people interacted with the sea, and what the archaeological remains can reveal about our ancient past.

The podcast is from the Honor Frost Foundation, a charity that promotes and funds maritime archaeological research, with a focus on the eastern Mediterranean. It was founded with a major bequest from the late Honor Frost, a pioneer in the world of maritime archaeology and the first female underwater archaeologist.

Dive & Dig hosted by Bettany Hughes and Dr Lucy Blue will be available from 15 October on all major podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and the Honor Frost Foundation.
