Evgeny Lebedev returns for series three of Brave New World podcast

Brave New World, the Evening Standard’s science podcast hosted by Evgeny Lebedev, is returning for a third series.

The podcast explores the latest research by scientists, thought leaders and intellectuals who are shaping the future and transforming our culture.

It also discusses the various solutions proposed by experts to tackle the anxieties and health issues we face in today’s society, as well as cutting-edge medical advances and what those mean for the future of humanity.

Topics featured in the new series range from the psychedelic renaissance, longevity and ageing, AI, and spirituality.

In the first episode Lord Lebedev meets Deepak Chopra, renowned author, physician, and pioneer of alternative medicine. He hears Chopra’s views on the future of healthcare, the role of technology and consciousness, and his new book “Digital Dharma: How AI Can Elevate Spiritual Intelligence and Personal Wellbeing”.

Chopra discusses how our understanding of reality is shifting with advancements in fields like epigenetics, neuroplasticity, and virtual/augmented reality.

He believes that the future of healthcare will involve more self-treatment through immersive virtual experiences that can directly impact biology and well-being.

Chopra also delves into the philosophical and spiritual aspects of consciousness, explaining how our perceived reality is a construct of the mind, and that true reality lies in the infinite, incomprehensible source of all experience.

Other guests and topics coming in the series include Dame Helen Mirren on belief, Peter Attia on longevity, Steven Pinker on the curse of defeatism, George Church (guest starring Sir Ian McKellen) on genomics, Jim Poole on stress and sleep management, Mustafa Hamada on neuroscience and brain health, Tim Spector on tackling obesity, Jordan Peterson on his carnivore diet and Aubrey de Grey on the possibility of eternal life.

Brave New World was inspired partly by Lord Lebedev’s wellness journey and by his grandfather, Vladimir Sokolov, a preeminent Soviet biologist and zoologist, considered to be one of the forefathers of the environmentalist movement.

Speaking of the series return, Evgeny Lebedov said: What a privilege to speak with such brilliant minds on Brave New World, so I’m thrilled to be back and to offer our listeners more fascinating conversations.

“Speaking to the very best scientists, thinkers and futurists of our generation inspires me to continue learning and I hope listeners come away feeling enlightened and excited about our future.”

Series three of Brave New World launches today, Thursday, 26 September with future episodes released every other week.
